Dr. Somchai Pornbanlualap obtained his Bachelor degree in Biochemistry from Temple University at Philadelphia, USA. He then went on to work on biosynthesis of nucleoside antibiotics under Professor Robert J. Suhadolnik at the Department of Biochemistry, Temple University School of Medicine. After obtained his Ph.D. from Temple, he went on to do postdoctoral work for three years under Professor Michael J. Chamberlin at University of California at Berkeley, where he studied the mechanism of transcription antitermination in E. coli RNA polymerase by bacteriophage lambda N protein. Currently, he is an assistant professor at the Department of Biochemistry at the Kasetsart University in Thailand. His research interests include studying enzyme mechanisms, developing transition state inhibitors and nucleic acids enzymology.
